NATURAL EXTRACTS + SAFE SYNTHETICS
What most of us want is pretty simple: safe skincare that works. That’s why we use a blend of natural extracts and safe synthetics that have been proven to perform better than “all natural” ingredient combinations. We avoid chemical sunscreens, harsh and synthetic fragrances, phthalates, BPA, BHA, BHT, formaldehyde, hydroquinone, mineral oil, toluene, and more. Basically, if it has a bad rap, we don’t use it.
POWERED BY POLYPHENOLS
We’re crazy about polyphenols, and science backs up our obsession. Polyphenols help with skin renewal, collagen, hyperpigmentation and oxidative stress. Long story short? If you want to keep your youthful glow going, there’s no better skin food than these plant compounds.
You wouldn’t eat only acai bowls forever, so why feed your skin with only one hero ingredient? Like most things, botanicals work better together thanks to something called molecular synergy. Before a plant is harvested, it relies on a complex of phytochemicals to help it thrive. But after harvest, this phytochemical cocktail becomes impossible to bottle. To mimic the power of the whole plant, we employ a synergistic approach—blending phytochemicals from multiple plants and other pure actives to create the most potent product.
ingredients we avoid
Chemical sunscreens like oxybenzone and octinoxate have been shown to cause photo-allergic reactions and endocrine disruption.
SYNTHETIC FRAGRANCES & PHTHALATES
Often derived from petrochemicals, many of these ingredients are suspected to be allergenic, carcinogenic, and capable of causing nervous system disorders.
These widely used preservatives are no-no’s because they have been linked to endocrine disruption and allergic reactions.
BHT is a toluene-based preservative common in personal care. Toluene is a volatile solvent that may cause birth defects. Both are irritating to the skin and may cause endocrine disruption.
Mineral oil has been linked to bioaccumulation in the body, which means it might stick around in your tissues forever. It has also been linked to hormone disruption.
Sulfates are great for making cleansers foamy and bubbly. Unfortunately, these ingredients can disrupt your skin’s natural lipid barrier, stripping away precious moisture.
This ingredient, which is banned in the EU, is often used in creams and serums that target dark spots. We avoid it because it has been linked to cancer and organ system toxicity.
We avoid formaldehyde, a known carcinogen, and other chemicals called formaldehyde-releasers that are often used as preservatives in cosmetics.
These ammonia compounds are used as emulsifiers and foaming agents. We avoid them because there’s some research suggesting they may be carcinogenic.
